AceShowbiz - The upcoming Disney remake of "Snow White" has been embroiled in numerous controversies. One of the major points of contention is decision to use CGI to bring the seven dwarfs to life, instead of casting little people for the roles. This move has received both criticism and support from different quarters.
Hollywood veteran Martin Klebba, who voices Grumpy in the film, defended Disney's decision. "When it comes to the animated part of it, I guess you could have left it with just doing the animals animated," Klebba told The Post.
He added that finding seven little people who could act and have good chemistry together would be challenging. "I don't know other than Mr. [Peter] Dinklage or Warwick Davis, you know - there's only a couple guys out there that really could pull off the acting," he added.
Peter Dinklage, known for his role in "Game of Thrones," offered a strong critique of the project, calling it "f**king backwards" for sticking to outdated stereotypes.
He lambasted Disney, arguing, "You're progressive in one way, but then you're still making that f**king backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f**k are you doing, man?"
In response, Disney has stated that they are "taking a different approach" with these characters and consulting with members of the dwarfism community to avoid reinforcing stereotypes.
The controversies don't stop there. The Los Angeles premiere of "Snow White," scheduled for March 15, has been scaled back. Klebba expressed his disappointment, "We've come to this place in society where people work really hard on this movie... and just because a couple of people have views that not everybody feels the same way, now we're having to alter the fun part of making a movie, which is premieres."
Rachel Zegler, who plays Snow White, has faced backlash for her comments on various issues, including the original 1937 film and political matters. Calling the classic "extremely dated," Zegler highlighted that her version of Snow White is more about leadership and not being saved by a prince.
The film's stars also hold differing views on geopolitical issues. Gal Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen, has expressed support for Israel, while Zegler has voiced her stance on "free Palestine", is the heroine. These contrasting opinions have further fueled the controversy.
Despite the drama, "Snow White" is set to hit theaters on March 21, and Disney hopes that audiences will appreciate their new take on the beloved classic.
