Tightly guarded by her bodyguard, agent, and a Netflix publicist, the actress kept media and reporters at bay. This explained why she didn't do any interview or pose for a picture despite her presence at Hollywood's most prestigious event.

The "Emilia Perez" star, who was once a frontrunner in the awards season, faced intense backlash after old tweets resurfaced. These posts contained negative remarks about a lot of issues including Black people and diversity at the Academy Awards.

The uproar ultimately derailed her awards campaign, but it didn't stop her from attending the ceremony with her wife, Marisa Gutierrez, and their daughter, Victoria. Netflix which initially dropped her from Oscars campaign agreed to pay for her expenses.

It came after a brief period of silence from Gascon which was followed by loving shout-outs from director Jacques Audiard and co-star Zoe Saldana when they won awards despite their previous condemnations of Gascon's tweets.

At the Oscars, Selena Gomez was also seen having a warm interaction with Gascon despite viral screenshots of Gascon's old tweet where she trashed the former Disney darling.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer addressed Gascon's controversies ahead of the event, urging attendees to maintain an "air of respect" for the nominee. "The Academy does not condone hate speech - I want to be very clear about that. Karla's nomination is historic. That's really important. She's still a nominee. We honour that, but we do not condone hate speech," he stated.

Conan O'Brien, the host for the evening, didn't shy away from the controversy in his monologue. He famously quipped, " 'Anora' uses the F-word 479 times. That's three times more than the record set by the publicist of Karla Sofía Gascón. Karla, if you are going to tweet about the Oscars, remember my name is Jimmy Kimmel," poking fun at the scandal.

Karla Sofía Gascón has apologized for her previous comments, acknowledging the pain they caused. "As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness," she noted in a statement.
