AceShowbiz - Karla Sofia Gascon thanked Madonna on Instagram. Amid the backlash stemming from her old tweets targeting Muslim, Black Lives Matter, and Asian people among others, Madonna has emerged as one of her secret supporters.
"Madonna, I want to thank you for all the love you have shown me. I love you," Gascon wrote. Posting a black-and-white photo of Madonna hugging her, she revealed that the Material Girl had invited her to a party following her Oscars attendance.
Madonna hasn't publicly responded to Gascon's post, but she had previously praised Gascon's movie "Emilia Perez" as a "masterpiece." Before the tweet controversy, Gascon said Madonna was deeply moved by the film and brought to tears at a New York screening.
However, high praise over the movie was soon overshadowed by outrage over Gascon's offensive tweets. One read, "More and more the #Oscars are looking like a ceremony for independent and protest films, I didn't know if I was watching an Afro-Korean festival, a Black Lives Matter demonstration or the 8M."
Karla Sofia Gascon, aware that her controversy jeopardized the Oscars campaign for her movie, briefly took a step back from social media ahead of the Academy Awards. Now that awards season has come to an end, she becomes active again especially on Instagram although she still doesn't dare to reactivate her scandal-riddled Twitter.
A day after Oscars, she cracked jokes about her appearance at the show, jokingly referring to host Conan O'Brien as Jimmy Kimmel. "I really enjoyed it, very amiable and funny," she wrote.
During his monologue, O'Brien quipped about Gascon's scandal, joking about the number of times the F-word was used in a Best Picture nominee "Anora". He jested, "That's three more than the record set by Karla SofÃa Gascon's publicist!"
