'Emilia Perez' star Karla Sofia Gascon has apologized once more for her past offensive social media posts and promises to stay silent and 'let the work talk for itself' amid intense backlash.

AceShowbiz - Oscar nominee Karla Sofia Gascon responded to "Emilia Perez" director Jacques Audiard after he accused her of being "self-destructive" amid controversy over her past social media posts. In her latest statement, Gascon apologized once again "to everyone who has been hurt along the way" while vowing to be silent from now on.

"Following Jacques interview that I understand, I decided, for the film, for Jacques, for the cast, for the incredible crew who deserves it, for the beautiful adventure we all had together, to let the work talk for itself, hoping my silence will allow the film to be appreciated for what it is, a beautiful ode to love and difference," she wrote.

In his earlier remarks, director Audiard admitted Gascon's offensive tweets "affected" their relationship. "Suddenly you read something that that person has said, things that are absolutely hateful and worthy of being hated," he said. "It's as if you fall into a hole. Because what Karla Sofía said is inexcusable."

The filmmaker also cut ties with Gascon, refusing to talk to the actress, "I don't want to. She is in a self-destructive approach that I can't interfere in, and I really don't understand why she's continuing. Why is she harming herself? Why? I don't understand it."

Gascón's resurfaced posts that caused uproar included anti-Muslim hate speech, comments on the murder of George Floyd, and criticisms of diversity in the film industry. She has since deactivated her social media account.

Jacques Audiard himself is under fire as well due to his controversial comments about Spanish language. Much like Gascon, he sparked outrage after an interview where he said, "Spanish is a language of modest countries, of developing countries, of the poor and migrants."

"Emilia Pérez" is the most-nominated film at this year's Oscars, with 13 nominations including nods for Gascón and Zoe Saldana. It is unclear whether Gascón will attend the upcoming biggest awards show in movie industry.
