AceShowbiz - Halsey, 30, gets raunchy in a new Ramones-meets-Bikini Kill single "Safeword," accompanied by an NSFW, BDSM-inspired music video. Directed by Lana Jay Lackey, the visual begins with Halsey in studded barely-there number. As the raucous, riot-grrrl-tinged track progresses, Halsey morphs into a dominatrix, delivering powerful lyrics and kicking a man in a leather mask to the floor.
"Pin me to the floor, swing me by the neck/ Locked behind a door, it is time yet, time yet?/ Don't be such a bore, gimme respect/ Are you feeling sore? Are you wet yet, wet yet?" Halsey howls, emphasizing the provocative nature of the song.
Produced by Halsey along with Austin Corona and Wyatt Bernard, the song explores themes of dominance and submission, with Halsey toggling between these modes but predominantly embodying a dominant persona, whether in the bedroom or in other aspects of life.
"Oh, can you take it, baby? Oh, can you handle it?/ Don't tell me what to do, I'm not gonna stand for it/ Oh, can you take it, baby? Oh, can you handle it?/ Don't tell me what to do, I won't stand for it," Halsey declares.
The single follows Halsey's fifth studio album, "The Great Impersonator", which dropped last October. This album featured tracks inspired by iconic musicians including Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen, and Kate Bush.
Looking forward, Halsey has announced their 2025 For My Last Trick tour, set to kick off on May 10 at Toyota Pavilion at Concord in Concord, Calif., moving through 32 cities across the U.S. and Canada.
Special guests for the tour include Del Water Gap, The Warning, Evanescence, Alvvays, Hope Tala, Sir Chloe, Royel Otis, Flowerovlove, Magdalena Bay, and Alemeda, appearing on select dates.
With "Safeword," Halsey continues to challenge norms and defy expectations. The combination of punk influences and BDSM motifs creates a track that is both empowering and boundary-pushing, resonating deeply with fans who admire her audacious artistry.
