AceShowbiz - Lil Wayne confirmed that he would not be attending this year's Super Bowl in his hometown of New Orleans this coming Sunday, February 9. The NFL event will feature Kendrick Lamar with SZA as a special guest during the halftime show.
"Y'all know I'm not going to be there this week," Wayne said. "Shoutout to New Orleans, but I've been working on something very special. I've got something exciting coming for you." He added, "Until then? I'm just chillin'."
The rapper had previously expressed disappointment after not being picked as the halftime performer. "I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot," he confessed.
Kendrick responded to the controversy on his song "wacced out murals." Calling himself as huge fan of the New Orleans native, K. Dot felt disheartened by Wayne's reaction, "I used to bump 'Tha Carter 3', I held my Rollie chain proud. Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down..."
Mistaking it as a diss, Wayne raged on Twitter, "Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let's not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love."
After his initial angry rant, Wayne clarified that he had no beef with Lamar and wished him success in the performance. "I've spoken to him, and I wished him all the best, and I told him he better kill it," he backtracked on his comments. "You better kill it. You got to kill it."
Besides being snubbed by NFL, Lil Wayne, whose favorite team Green Bay Packers lost early in this season, also had no mood for Super Bowl as he criticized Kansas City Chiefs. On the day the reigning Super Bowl champions bested the Houston Texans, he wrote on social media, "I hate the cheating azz chiefs. It's not even impressive when u cheat and then clearly try to cheat … Just win baby."
In response, Jason Kelce read a tweet that defended Chiefs, "Literally folks will see s**t like this and say 'yup just like i thought. Refs vs. Texans' lol. Bro the Texans left the all time leading playoffs receiver wide b***y b*** nekkid open for 4 quarters and yet the Chiefs needed those calls," to which Travis Kelce burst out laughing.
