AceShowbiz - David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham have been confirmed to join the cast of "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" as the parents of the title character, Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl. "House of the Dragon" actress Milly Alcock is set to star as Kara Zor-El.
Directed by "I, Tonya" and "Cruella" filmmaker Craig Gillespie, the film will kick off production this month in the U.K. The script is penned by playwright and screenwriter Ana Nogueira, based on Tom King and Bilquis Evely's comic book series released in 2023.
DC heads James Gunn and Peter Safran have revealed that this iteration of Supergirl will be quite distinct from previous portrayals. "This is a very different type of Supergirl," Gunn stated.
"In our [film], we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from, you know, the time he's an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip-off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She's not exactly the Supergirl we're used to seeing."
The official synopsis for King's series hints at an action-packed, emotional journey, "Wherever she goes, people only see her through the lens of Superman's fame. Just when Supergirl thinks she's had enough, everything changes. An alien girl seeks her out for a vicious mission."
"Her world has been destroyed, and the bad guys responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn't help her, she'll do it herself, whatever the cost. Now a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry, heartbroken child head out into space on a journey that will shake them to their very core."
Alongside the main cast, Matthias Schoenaerts is set to play the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill, Jason Momoa will take on the role of Lobo, and Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye Mary Knolle. The lineup promises to deliver a rich and diverse range of performances.
Krumholtz, known for his roles in "Oppenheimer" and the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic "Deliver Me from Nowhere," is represented by Paradigm and Brookside Management.
Beecham, best known for her work in the Netflix series "1899" and Guy Ritchie's "The Covenant," is repped by CAA and Entertainment 360. Other projects in her repertoire include the historical epic "William Tell" and CBS Studios' period drama "King & Conqueror."
DC Studios is set to release "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" on June 26, 2026. With a fresh take on a beloved character and a highly talented team working behind and in front of the camera, the upcoming film is shaping up to be a must-watch for superhero fans and newcomers alike.
