AceShowbiz - In the final episode of "Saturday Night Live" season 50, hosted by Martin Short with musical guest Hozier, Bowen Yang delivered another memorable performance. Known for his roles as the Titanic iceberg and viral pygmy hippo Moo Deng, Yang added a besieged drone flying over New Jersey to his list of aggrieved inanimate objects.
Introduced by co-host Michael Che, Yang quickly embraced the indoor setting, quipping, "Hey, wow, indoors - this is different." When Che inquired about Yang's identity, Yang retorted, "Ok, no, we're not gonna do that. See, I know what I am, and I don't have to explain myself to anyone at any time for any reason."
He humorously defended his enigmatic actions in the sky, "All y'all hate me 'cause I'm up. Everybody's like, 'Is it a UFO, is it military, is it promo for SNL 50?' Meanwhile, I'm just minding my business, hovering over people's homes, maybe filming them. Also, what is so threatening about random machines in the night sky? God, it's like y'all have never been to Afghanistan before."
Yang's wit shone through as he addressed conspiracy theories about drones being "manned," "What's this obsession with whether I'm 'manned' or not? For the record, I can get a man whenever I want. Trust me, there's no problem there."
He also humorously revealed he was dating "the helicopter from [t=Succession." His portrayal reached a euphoric crescendo as he serenaded the audience with a rendition of "Defying Gravity," declaring that nobody is "ever gonna bring me down." Yang's performance echoed his role in this year's blockbuster "Wicked" alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
In addition to Yang's stellar act, co-hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che exchanged timely jokes, touching on Luigi Mangione's recent arrival to New York City and its impact on Bumble.
The duo also participated in their traditional joke-swapping segment, with Jost imitating a "Black voice" while poking fun at his wife, Scarlett Johansson. Che, on the other hand, made light of his presence at P. Diddy's parties and the allegations against Jay-Z.
It was a night filled with laughter and sharp wit, with Bowen Yang's drone act shining brightly. "Saturday Night Live" continues to be a beacon of comedic brilliance, reflecting on society with humor and intelligence.
