AceShowbiz - Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was fined $5,628 by the NFL for wearing mismatched Air Jordan cleats in two different shades of green during the Eagles' victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Jordan Brand has announced that it will pay the fine on Hurts' behalf.
According to NFL rules, players must wear cleats that match the team's colors. Hurts wore one dark "Midnight green" cleat matching his jersey and one "Kelly green" cleat. The league determined that one of the cleats violated the uniform and equipment rules, which state that cleats must be in "constitutional team colors."
Hurts explained that he intended to wear a different pair of cleats, but they failed to arrive in time. He often switches shoes at halftime, but this time he wore the mismatched cleats for the entire game.
Jordan Brand, a Nike subsidiary, released a statement saying, "We're paying the fine. You can't ban greatness." This gesture echoes Nike's decision to pay the fines for Michael Jordan 40 years ago when he violated the league's dress code by wearing his signature Air Jordans.
Hurts, one of Jordan Brand's highest-profile NFL athletes, has made a habit of wearing multiple pairs of Jordan cleats during a single game. In a previous game against the Cincinnati Bengals, one of his cleats came off, forcing him to change into a white Jordan 11 and earning him the nickname "Jalen Two-Shoes."
Despite the fine, Hurts turned in a strong performance against the Steelers, completing 25 passes, throwing for two touchdowns, and rushing for another. He remains confident in his footwear choices, saying, "We'll see. We'll see" when asked if he would wear the mismatched cleats again and risk another fine.
