DreamWorks Animation's 'The Wild Robot' leads the 2025 Annie Awards with an impressive 10 nominations, including Best Feature and Best Direction, setting the stage for a thrilling awards season.

AceShowbiz - As the 52nd annual Annie Awards approach, DreamWorks Animation's latest hit, "The Wild Robot," has emerged as the frontrunner with 10 nominations. This sci-fi adventure, directed by Chris Sanders, has been recognized in categories such as Best Feature, Best Direction, and Best Character Animation. The film, based on Peter Brown's bestselling novel, follows the story of Roz, a robot stranded on a jungle island, who befriends an array of animals, including a goose voiced by Kit Connor and a fox voiced by Pedro Pascal.
Despite Its dominance, "The Wild Robot" faces stiff competition from other notable contenders. Pixar's "Inside Out 2", which became the highest-grossing animated film ever, received seven nominations, including Best Feature and Best Writing.
Aardman's "Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl" matched this tally, also securing seven nominations. Other films vying for Best Feature include "Kung Fu Panda 4," "That Christmas" by Locksmith Animation and Netflix, and "Ultraman: Rising" from Tsuburaya Productions and Netflix.
In the Best Feature - Independent category, films like "Chicken for Linda!," "Flow," "Kensuke's Kingdom," "Mars Express," and "Memoir of a Snail" are competing.
Aside from Annie nomination, "Flow," from Latvia and co-produced by Sacrebleu Productions, has already garnered multiple critical accolades, including Best Animated Feature awards from various film critics' circles and European Film Awards.
Television series also have a strong presence at the Annie Awards. Netflix's "Arcane," based on the League of Legends video game, leads with seven nominations in various TV categories. Other prominent shows include "Bob's Burgers," "South Park," and the final season of "Dream Productions" by Pixar Animation Studios.
The special Juried Awards will honor individuals and groups for their exceptional contributions to animation. This year, "Beauty and the Beast" animator Aaron Blaise, the late British animator Eunice Macaulay, and Canadian composer Normand Roger will receive the Winsor McCay Awards. In addition, the June Foray Award goes to Women in Animation, and Alberto Menache will receive the Ub Iwerks Award for his achievements in visual effects.
The Annie Awards ceremony, celebrating its 52nd year, will take place on February 8, 2025, at UCLA's Royce Hall. As animated films and series continue to capture the imagination of audiences worldwide, the competition between these outstanding works reflects the creative innovations and storytelling brilliance in the world of animation.
