AceShowbiz - Sean "P. Diddy" Combs appeared once more in a New York courtroom on Friday, November 22 to push for his release on bail in a federal trafficking case. This comes after previous denials from two judges and an appellate judge. Combs, donning a beige jail uniform, entered the courtroom to gestures of love toward his family, who were present to show their support.
Prosecutors argue that Combs cannot be trusted to follow pretrial release conditions, citing his behavior in jail as proof. Prosecutor Christy Slavik explicitly mentioned, "The defendant, simply put, cannot be trusted," and accused Combs of continuously violating jail rules, communicating through unauthorized channels, and aiming to sway potential jurors via social media campaigns. Slavik's argument emphasized that no measure, not even around-the-clock private security, could ensure Combs' compliance.
Combs' legal team proposed a $50 million bail package backed by his Star Island mansion, and suggested strict house arrest either at his Florida home or an Upper East Side apartment in New York. His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, insisted, "If what the government is afraid of is that Mr. Combs is going to be violent toward someone, there's just zero chance of that happening." These measures include comprehensive limitations on visitors and phone calls, suggesting that Combs would be under far more restrictive conditions than in jail.
However, prosecutors remain unconvinced, stressing this is "a case about violence." They have painted Combs as a danger to the community, referencing a video showing Combs assaulting his former girlfriend Cassie, an incident the defense characterizes as part of a "toxic" relationship rather than a criminal act. Slavik responded, "There's really no dispute about what the video shows-it shows the defendant shoving, kicking, and dragging a female victim," pointing out Combs' past public apology for the incident.
The gravity of the charges against Combs is profound, including racketeering conspiracy, trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation as part of an alleged criminal enterprise. According to federal prosecutors, Combs used his business empire to coerce, abuse and manipulate women, often involving elaborate, drug-fueled parties termed "freak offs."
With Judge Arun Subramanian set to make a ruling next week, Combs' future hangs in balance, maintaining that he is not guilty of any criminal misconduct. If denied bail, he will remain in custody, anticipating a trial slated for May 2025. As Combs left the courtroom, he shared the same affectionate gestures with his family, underscoring the emotional toll this legal battle exerts on him and his loved ones.
