According to AllHipHop, the text messages were sent after Diddy allegedly assaulted Cassie. The messages include graphic descriptions of her injuries and her fear of him. Cassie allegedly wrote, "I have a black eye and fat lip. You are sick for thinking it's OK to do what you've done... I still have crazy bruising."
Diddy has publicly apologized for the assault, which was captured on video and released by CNN in May 2024. The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office did not prosecute the case due to the statute of limitations. However, the alleged abuse is now part of federal prosecutors' case against Diddy in his federal trafficking trial.
The case has also raised questions about another incident involving Diddy. Shyne, a former associate of Diddy, has claimed that Diddy was responsible for a 1999 club shooting that resulted in Shyne's imprisonment for almost nine years. Funk Flex and others have disputed these allegations, but they have nevertheless drawn attention to Diddy's past.
Cassie filed a lawsuit against Diddy under the Adult Survivors Act in late 2023. The lawsuit was quickly settled, but the details of the settlement remain undisclosed.
