The long-anticipated reboot of "Cliffhanger" is currently in production in the scenic Dolomites of Austria. However, in a twist that may surprise fans, Sylvester Stallone will not be reprising his role as the intrepid search-and-rescue climber Gabe Walker.

Originally announced in May 2023, the reboot was initially planned to feature Stallone's return under the direction of Ric Roman Waugh. But a creative overhaul has led to a new vision, now helmed by Jaume Collet-Serra with Lily James stepping into the lead role.

Their scenic yet dangerous life takes a dramatic turn when kidnappers target them during a weekend trip with a billionaire's son. Naomi, haunted by a past climbing accident, must confront her fears to save her family.

The supporting cast is equally impressive, featuring Nell Tiger Free, Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba, and Bruno Gouery. The script by Ana Lily Amirpour has been described as a "father-daughter take on Die Hard", hinting at intense action and deep emotional layers.

Collet-Serra, known for films like "Non-Stop" and "The Shallows", emphasized the importance of practical effects, aligning with the spirit of the original film.

"Shooting our movie on location in the Dolomites using large format cameras was imperative for us to show the scope and scale of the story we're telling. We're going to bring the audience a truly thrilling and visceral, premium theatrical experience," he said.
