AceShowbiz - The long-awaited final installment in Tom Hardy's "Venom" trilogy is hitting theaters later this month, featuring the Symbiote god Knull. Known to comic book readers as the God of the Symbiotes, Knull is an immensely powerful character who has quickly become a fan favorite since his debut in 2018. However, according to director and co-writer Kelly Marcel, Knull is not the primary antagonist of "Venom: The Last Dance".
"One movie could never do justice to Knull," Marcel stated while discussing the film with IGN. Instead, the movie will only "touch the beginnings of his story," setting the groundwork for Knull's future on-screen appearances. This approach aims to avoid the classic trap of underutilizing a villain who is simply too significant for a single film. Marcel added, "The King in Black is way too powerful for 'one and done.' "
Knull is a primordial entity as ancient as the Celestials, integral to the Spider-Verse as the creator of the symbiote hive-mind from which Venom originated. While his brief introduction in "Venom: The Last Dance" might seem like a missed opportunity, Marcel insists this is just the beginning for Knull. "Marvel's greatest film villains are developed over time," she explained, noting that intricate villains need multiple films to be properly fleshed out.
For those unfamiliar with the comics, Knull is responsible for creating All-Black the Necrosword, a weapon designed to kill gods. The character has influenced various Marvel storylines, impacting heroes like Silver Surfer, Avengers, Fantastic Four and the X-Men. His multi-faceted impact ensures that Knull's presence will be felt across numerous future Marvel films.
"Venom: The Last Dance" also marks the conclusion of Tom Hardy's portrayal of Eddie Brock. The movie will focus heavily on Eddie and Venom's relationship, testing its absolute limits as they face multiple adversaries. Marcel hinted at new symbiote stories and even the potential for a Knull-centric spinoff, saying, "Beyond this trilogy, there are more stories to explore - God is coming."
Looking forward, it's likely that Knull will become a major part of the Sony Spider-Verse, possibly even crossing over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character's intricate and powerful backstory makes him an ideal candidate for future epic narratives, possibly even uniting multiple Spider-Men once again. "This film introduces Knull, but it just touches the beginnings of his story," Marcel emphasized, promising an exciting future for the character.
"Venom: The Last Dance" premieres in theaters on October 25, and it promises to be just the beginning of an exciting new chapter for fans of the Marvel Universe.
