AceShowbiz - Hurricane Milton, a Category 3 storm, made landfall in Florida, bringing intense winds, storm surge, and tornadoes. CNN's Anderson Cooper was hit by debris while reporting live, while Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel sought shelter from windborne projectiles.
Just minutes after Hurricane Milton roared ashore with 120 mph winds, CNN's Anderson Cooper faced a personal impact. While doing a live standup in Bradenton, a piece of flying debris struck him in the face. Unfazed, Cooper carried on with his report before circling back to examine the debris.
Meanwhile, CNN's Bill Weir lost his red CNN hat in the storm's fierce winds and rain while reporting from St. Petersburg. Jim Cantore of The Weather Channel sheltered in a parking garage in Port Charlotte, but the harbor invaded, "literally taking over the parking area" as the ocean flooded the city.
Governor Ron DeSantis reported 19 confirmed tornadoes and 116 tornado warnings across Florida. Storm surge and significant rainfall are expected to impact both coasts as the storm moves through central Florida. The state has deployed generators, staged fuel reserves, and prepared search and rescue teams. Over 50,000 linemen are ready to restore power once it's safe.
FEMA teams continue search and rescue operations in North Carolina, where 28,000 assistance applications have been approved for $37 million statewide, including $15.9 million in Buncombe County. Assistance grants, mental health counseling, and prescription drug assistance are available to those affected.
