AceShowbiz - Stephen Amell, who portrayed Green Arrow from 2012 to 2023 in the hit TV series "Arrow," has recently taken aim at DC Studios co-chief James Gunn. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Amell criticized the disrespect towards the Arrowverse, a shared DC Universe of live-action TV series, by the people behind DC's movies and Gunn's "Peacemaker."

In "Peacemaker," John Cena's character makes a derogatory joke about Green Arrow, mocking his costume and comparing him to the "Twilight" vampires. Amell expressed his disapproval of the joke, saying it was "unnecessary" and "disrespectful." He made his displeasure clear, "I didn't f***ing appreciate that at all."

Amell was frustrated as he felt that the Arrowverse was often perceived as a lesser product because it aired on The CW network. However, he argued that it remained the most popular and impactful iteration of DC for many fans.

"We got crapped on for years, and years, and years," Amell stated. "This just seemed excessive."

While Amell expressed understandable disappointment over the joke, he was quick to clarify that his discontent was not directed at John Cena. "If I should be mad at anyone, it should be James Gunn for writing that in the first place," he noted, adding, "[Cena] could not be a nicer guy. It's not a personal vendetta against [Cena]."

Amell's disappointment rooted in the lack of recognition and respect accorded to the Arrowverse. As a dedicated actor who worked hard to bring Green Arrow to life, he felt that the show deserved to be treated with more dignity.

Launched in 2012 and concluding in 2020, "Arrow "established the foundation for what fans affectionately call the Arrowverse, a shared universe encompassing shows like "The Flash", "Supergirl", and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow". Amell's portrayal of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow was the linchpin of this universe, endearing him to audiences over eight gripping seasons.
