AceShowbiz - Jack White and Meg White, the duo behind The White Stripes, have filed a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump for unauthorized use of their iconic song "Seven Nation Army" in his campaign videos.
The former presidential candidate, along with his campaign and deputy communications chief Margo Martin, are named as defendants in the suit filed in the Southern District of New York. The complaint alleges "flagrant misappropriation" of the song, a highly recognizable and influential musical work. Trump's campaign posted videos on X and other social media platforms featuring footage of the former president boarding an airplane with "Seven Nation Army" playing in the background.
The White Stripes claim that Trump and his associates knew or should have known that the song's usage was unauthorized. They previously expressed their disgust over its use in Trump's 2016 campaign. In this latest infringement, the band emphasizes its strong opposition to Trump's policies and actions as president and his proposed second term.
The suit seeks damages, attorney's fees, and discovery to determine if the videos generated campaign contributions. It highlights Trump's experience in the entertainment industry, suggesting he should have been aware of copyright law. The White Stripes join a growing list of musicians and estates who have objected to Trump's use of their music, including Celine Dion, the Foo Fighters and Isaac Hayes' family.
