Known for her candidness, Selena Gomez talks about her inability to carry a baby and her plans for future motherhood, feeling grateful for other options such as adoption or surrogacy.

AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez has always been vocal about her health struggles, from her 2013 diagnosis of lupus - which led to a life-saving kidney transplant - to her battle with bipolar disorder. Speaking to Vanity Fair for the outlet's October issue, published on September 9, Gomez, 32, shared another intimate aspect of her life.

"I haven't ever said this, but I unfortunately can't carry my own children," she opened up. "I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby's in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while."

Despite this personal challenge, Gomez has found hope and solace in other paths to motherhood. "I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me," she said, adding, "It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I'm one of those people."

Her candidness about not being able to carry a child extends back to previous interviews. She recalled crying in her car while reflecting on her own situation after visiting a friend who was trying to get pregnant.

"That's a very big, big present thing in my life," Gomez told Rolling Stone in 2022. "However I'm meant to have them, I will," she added, hopeful about the prospect of becoming a mother.

Gomez, who has been open about her interest in adoption, previously told Time magazine that she planned to adopt at age 35 if she had not met a romantic partner. "I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it. A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it," she reflected.

Fortunately, love found its way to Gomez's life. She confirmed her romance with music producer Benny Blanco in December 2023, calling him her "best friend" and "complete light." Gomez also cherishes the simplicity they share, saying, "I love fresh foods and stuff. I'm starting to get into that kind of because of my boyfriend."

Selena Gomez's journey is inspiring and filled with hope. While her path to motherhood might look different, it's a testament to her resilience and unwavering determination to start a family. "I'm excited for what that journey will look like, but it'll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don't care. It'll be mine. It'll be my baby," she confidently stated.
