AceShowbiz - Rihanna has nothing but love for Kendrick Lamar ahead of his Super Bowl halftime show next year. The "Umbrella" hitmaker, who served as the headliner in 2023 for Super Bowl LVII, showed support for the rapper on Sunday, September 8.
Rihanna showed her excitement for Kendrick's performance after it was announced that the "Not Like Us" spitter will be headlining the Super Bowl LIX in February 2025. Fans noticed that the mom of two liked his Instagram post regarding the matter.
In the announcement video, Kendrick could be seen trolling his ongoing rival, Drake, by referencing his recent comments about preparing for a "Game 2." He remarked, "You know it's only one opportunity to win a championship - no round twos."
NFL announced on Sunday that Kendrick will perform on February 9, 2025, at the iconic Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, a fitting venue for such a historical performance, with the event airing live on Fox.
Jay-Z, who will oversee the halftime show for the sixth consecutive year through Roc Nation, gushed over the 17-time Grammy winner in a statement. "Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally," Jay-Z said.
While some fans were thrilled over the announcement, some people apparently thought Lil Wayne was the perfect artist to headline the Super Bowl in New Orleans. The "Annihilate" rapper's manager Fabian Marasciullo wrote on Instagram Stories, "Confused. Disappointed. Angry. But most of all. Inspired." He added, "Will never again be in a position or have the [goat emoji] in a position where we are at the mercy of someone else's decision. We will make the decisions."
Lil Wayne's daughter Reginae Carter also appeared to shade the decision. "They envy greatness !!!!" so the "Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta" alum wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. She didn't provide context, but due to the timing, fans believed she's referring to news that Kendrick has been set to headline the big event.
