AceShowbiz - On Tuesday, August 20, Jennifer Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, 52, in Los Angeles County Superior Court. The divorce petition was filed exactly two years after the couple's traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia.
According to TMZ, Lopez listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024. She filed the paperwork herself, without the assistance of a lawyer. Despite their elaborate wedding in Vegas in July 2022, Lopez did not cite a prenuptial agreement in the filing.
The couple's reunion in 2021 after nearly two decades of separation had captivated the public. However, rumors of marital trouble surfaced in May, with sources reporting that the pair had not been living together in their Los Angeles home.
In June, Lopez and Affleck put the mansion they shared in Beverly Hills on the market. Affleck later purchased a new $20 million home in Los Angeles. The couple spent most of the summer apart, with Lopez celebrating her 55th birthday without Affleck in the Hamptons.
In July, Lopez's performance at the 2024 Met Gala marked the last time the couple was seen together. Affleck stayed in Los Angeles to film his movie "The Accountant 2", while Lopez spent the following weeks at her tour rehearsals.
Sources told PEOPLE that Lopez and Affleck's differing personalities and approach to public life had created tension in their relationship. "Jennifer suggested they just take time to figure it out," an insider said.
The news of the divorce comes after months of speculation about the couple's marriage status. Bennifer's two-year run has officially come to an end, bringing a close to the latest chapter in their tumultuous love story.
