Eminem's latest album release has ignited a fierce debate, as one of the tracks references the Alec Baldwin shooting incident and others target fellow artists including Diddy.

AceShowbiz - On Friday, July 12, Eminem released his twelfth studio album, "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)," which he describes as a "conceptual album." However, it is the lyrics of the ninth track, "Fuel," that are drawing significant ire from listeners. In the song, Eminem raps, "F*** around and get popped like Halyna Hutchins / Like I'm Alec Baldwin, what I mean is buckin' you down, coup de grace then," referencing the tragic on-set shooting during the filming of the movie "Rust."
In October 2021, Hutchins was fatally shot by Baldwin with a prop gun that contained live ammunition, a controversial incident that has Baldwin currently on trial for involuntary manslaughter. The trial commenced on Wednesday, with Baldwin's attorney, Alex Spiro, emphasizing that Baldwin did not know the gun was loaded with live bullets. "He did not know, or have any reason to know, that the gun was loaded with a live bullet. That's the key. That live bullet is the key. That is the lethal element," stated Spiro.
The timing of the album's release, coinciding with Baldwin's trial, has led to an explosion of criticism on social media. One listener commented, "It's distasteful to make a tragedy into entertainment," while another suggested, "There's a line between commentary and exploitation, and this crosses it."
While Baldwin has maintained his innocence, stating that he did not pull the trigger and was unaware of the live round in the weapon, the actor could face up to 18 months in prison if convicted. "This was an unspeakable tragedy," Baldwin's attorney argued, "but Alec Baldwin committed no crime."
Eminem has often courted controversy with his provocative lyrics, and his latest album is no different. Alongside Baldwin, the rapper makes repeated references to Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, embroiled in legal battles over allegations of sexual assault and sex trafficking. Eminem's track "Antichrist" includes lines targeting Combs' history of allegations.
Amidst the backlash, Eminem fans are advised to listen to the album in sequence. "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)" is a conceptual album, and the artist warned that listening to songs out of order might render them confusing.
Only time will tell how this latest chapter in Eminem's storied career will be judged, especially with the shadow of the Baldwin trial looming large.
