AceShowbiz - Isla Fisher apparently didn't rush her decision to divorce Sacha Baron Cohen. According to a new report, the actress sought the advice of a formidable celebrity divorce lawyer two years ago.
It was said that Isla quietly contacted Baroness Fiona Shackleton. She's known as the legal expert who was involved in Sir Paul McCartney's $48.6 million split from Heather Mills.
"Isla has known for some time the marriage was over, and after some difficult conversations with Sacha, made the decision to consult a divorce lawyer. This was back in early summer, 2022," a source told The Sun.
The lawyer allegedly told the 48-year-old Australian actress, who reportedly has a prenup with Sacha, to go down the "amicable route." The insider continued, "Fiona Shackleton was recommended by mutual contacts, and Isla was put in touch with an associate at the office. It was also suggested she seek out a lawyer in the U.S., where the couple have a home. Fiona is an incredible lawyer, and utterly fearsome in both reputation and ability."
Meanwhile, Sacha allegedly contacted lawyer Laura Wasser. She famously represented Johnny Depp in his divorce from Amber Heard, and was involved in Angelina Jolie's divorce from Brad Pitt.
Recently, it was said that Rebel Wilson's sexual harassment accusation against Sacha was the catalyst for the couple's divorce announcement. "She's got her own career and reputation to worry about. So she felt as though it was the right thing to do to inform everyone of their decision," a source said of Isla.
The "Borat" actor, meanwhile, was allegedly against announcing their divorce. "He did not want that. He has been making as though it's business as usual before they made this announcement," the source explained.
Sacha and Isla announced their split after 14 years of marriage in a joint statement shared on Instagram on Friday, April 5. "After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down. In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage," their joint statement read.
"We have always prioritized our privacy, and have been quietly working through this change. We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family's wish for privacy," it continued.
