AceShowbiz - In the new documentary "In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon", Paul Simon reflects on his tumultuous marriage to Carrie Fisher. The documentary provides intimate insights into the complex dynamics of their relationship, highlighting both the passion and the challenges they faced during their tumultuous time together.

The 82-year-old singer-songwriter and Fisher met in 1978, and despite breaking up and making up repeatedly, they married in 1983. Their wedding was a star-studded affair, attended by the likes of Randy Newman, Lorne Michaels and Billy Joel.

However, their relationship was fraught with challenges. Fisher was a successful actress, well-adjusted to the spotlight, while Simon preferred a quieter life. "Carrie was much more show business-oriented," he recalls. "She knew how to manipulate it and make it work for her."

Their honeymoon was even marked by a dramatic fight, where Fisher exclaimed, "Not only do I not like you, I don't like you personally!" Ultimately, the couple divorced in 1984. Simon admits he was "exhausted" by the time they separated. "I mean, what was I thinking? Marriage is very, it's a hard thing to do," he reflects.

Despite their divorce, they remained friends and briefly dated on and off before ending their relationship for good. Fisher, who passed away in 2016, later described their marriage as the "wrong thing to do." She believed she was "good for material, but when it came to day-to-day living, I was a little more than [Simon] could take."

Simon went on to marry Edie Brickell in 1992, while Fisher had a relationship with Bryan Lourd, with whom she had a daughter, actress Billie Lourd.
