AceShowbiz - The Monterey Five will be returning to the small screen soon. During her appearance at the CME Group Tour Championship on Friday, November 17, Nicole Kidman revealed that the third season of HBO's "Big Little Lies" is currently in the works.
The actress shared the exciting news while speaking onstage at a Ladies Professional Golf Association Q&A event in Naples, Fla. "I loved 'Big Little Lies'," she shared, "because it sort of came along at a time in my life when I had my children and I was thinking I was going to retire."
The "Aquaman" star went on to say, "And then this situation came along, where Reese Witherspoon and I were able to produce that show and create that show. And then all of you watched it and made it a massive success." She later added, "And we will be bringing you a third one, just FYI."
Prior to Nicole's statement, Zoe appeared to cast doubt on season 3 of "Big Little Lies" following the death of director Jean-Marc Vallee. The director died at the age of 58 due to a fatal cardiac arrhythmia in 2021.
"I don't think it is [returning]," the "High Fidelity" star said in a TikTok video last year. "We talked about doing a season three a lot and, unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallee, our incredible director, passed away this last year and I just can't imagine going on without him. He really was the visionary for that show. So, unfortunately, it's done."
Based on the 2014 novel by Liane Moriarty, "Big Little Lies" debuted in 2017. In addition to Nicole and Reese, the star-studded drama features Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz and Shailene Woodley as high-powered yet troubled moms in Monterey, California. Following the huge success of the first season, HBO renewed the show for a second season with Meryl Streep joining the cast.
