'Dune: Part Two' Unleashes First Set Photo to Mark Production Kickoff

Announcing that filming has officially begun on the sequel, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment also reveal the official synopsis and full cast of the upcoming movie.

AceShowbiz - "Dune: Part Two" is officially in the making. Nearly a year after the release of the first film, the follow-up to the 2021 epic sci-fi movie has kicked off production with the cast and crew back on the desert.

To mark the start of the principal photography, the official Instagram page of the "Dune" movie unleashed the first set photo from the sequel on Monday, July 18. It features a clapperboard placed on the sand. "We're rolling. Production on Dune: Part Two has begun," read the caption.

Denis Villeneuve is back in the director's seat and filming on location in Budapest, Abu Dhabi, Jordan and Italy. Along with the production kickoff, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment revealed the official synopsis and confirmed the full cast of the upcoming movie.

According to the synopsis, "This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee."

Returning cast members include Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya Coleman, Rebecca Ferguson (II), Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgard, Javier Bardem and Stephen McKinley Henderson.

They will be joined by previously-reported new additions, which include "Elvis" breakout Austin Butler as the notorious Feyd Rautha, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as the Emperor's daughter Princess Irulan, Lea Seydoux as Lady Margot and Souheila Yacoub whose role is described as a Fremen warrior.

The first "Dune" movie wrapped production in July 2019 with additional filming taking place in August 2020. After long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the movie was finally released in October 2021 to critical acclaims. It's also a commercial success, grossing $401 million worldwide on a production budget of $165 million despite the slow business trend at the time.
