AceShowbiz - Big Boi is officially a single man again. The artist, who is best known as a member of the southern hip-hop duo Outkast along with Andre 3000 a.k.a. Andre Benjamin, and his wife Sherlita Patton have reportedly finalized their divorce, bringing their 20 years of marriage to an end.
According to TMZ, Big Boi filed the divorce papers in April, stating that there was "no reasonable hope of reconciliation" between him and Sherlita. He additionally noted in the filing that they had already separated and were living apart.
The court entered the final divorce decree in May, which was pretty quick, as the former couple seemingly manages to keep it amicable. As reported by the news outlet, the two agreed to a postnuptial agreement in 2016, in which they divided up their assets and debts, and more recently agreed to a confidential settlement to tie up any loose ends. The exes also agreed to keep details of their finances private.
Both parties additionally promised that they would not make threats of "injury, maltreating, molesting, harassing, harming, or abusing" in any way shape or form. The former spouses share a daughter named Jordan Patton and son Bamboo Patton a.k.a. Antwan Andre Patton II, while the "Shutterbugg" emcee has another son from a previous relationship.
Big Boi and Sherlita married in 2002 after he proposed to her on Valentine's Day in Las Vegas. After over a decade of marriage, their relationship hit a rough patch in 2013 as Sherlita filed for divorce from the rapper.
In the divorce complaint filed in Fulton County Superior Court, Sherlita claimed that the marriage is irretrievably broken. The co-owner of clothing boutique PValentine asked for sole custody of their second child, who was only 12 years old at the time.
However, they quietly reconciled and called off the divorce. In 2014, Big Boi, whose real name is Antwan Andre Patton, credited Jesus for saving his marriage and quoted, "A family that prays together, stays together."
