The former 'General Hospital' actor reportedly 'went through some upheaval and anger' after he's forced to quit the show over vaccine policy and his wife Sheree has since become 'unhappy.'

AceShowbiz - Steve Burton's life was reportedly already in "chaos" before he separated from his wife of 23 years. If a new report is to be trusted, the actor "went through some upheaval and anger" following his exit from "General Hospital" and it apparently affected his marital life.

"Their lives were changed when he went through some upheaval and anger over what he considered his freedoms being in jeopardy," a source says as quoted by PEOPLE on Monday, May 9. "He had to leave a show that he loved, which caused chaos in his life."

Since then, Steve's now-estranged wife Sheree had become "unhappy" leading up to the split and she was looking for "something more." The source adds, "Their lives have been in the coasting stage for a while," noting, "After a long marriage, it's not that unusual."

Steve announced his split from Sheree last week after over two decades of marriage and three kids together. He said through his Instagram Story on May 4, "I wanted to clear something up. Sheree and I are separated."

"She recently announced that she's expecting her 4th child," the 51-year-old wrote, before clarifying, "The child is not mine." He, however, added, "We are still co-parenting our beautiful kids. We would appreciate privacy at this time. Much luv, Steve."

Steve and Sheree married on January 16, 1999. They have two daughters, 18-year-old Makena Grace and 7-year-old Brooklyn Faith, as well as a son, 16 year-old Jack Stephen.

Prior to the marital woes, Steve was let go from "General Hospital" in late 2021 because he refused to get vaccinated against COVID-19. In a video explaining the situation, he said, "I know there's been a lot of rumors and speculation about me and 'General Hospital'. And I wanted you to hear it from me personally."

"Unfortunately, 'General Hospital' has let me go because of the vaccine mandate," he divulged. "I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts."

Focusing on the good side, Steve added, "But this is also about personal freedom for me. I don't think anyone should lose their livelihood over this." He also expressed gratitude for his experience on the show, stating, "I'll always be grateful for my time at 'General Hospital'. I love it there. I grew up there.... so I'll always be grateful."
