AceShowbiz - The 2022 Met Gala is officially here and back in its usual time slot, the first weekend of May, after being pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Among celebrities who turned heads with their best looks were Blake Lively, who channeled the Statue of Liberty, and Sophie Turner, who was clad in a stunning maternity gown.
Blake arrived on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night, April 2 arm-in-arm with her husband Ryan Reynolds. As she climbed the famous Met Gala steps, "The Age of Adaline" actress, who was the co-host of the event, flipped the train of her Atelier Versace dress, revealing an aqua side that cascaded down behind her. Her outfit featured matching gloves and she accessorized the look with statement earrings and a tiara that was also a nod to the Statue of Liberty.
"The draping [represents] the Statue of Liberty, plus the crown which has seven tiers, the Statue Liberty has seven rays representing the sun's rays and then also the seven seas and continents which represents welcomeness, inclusivity and freedom," Blake said. "I sound like a Wikipedia page ... she has 25 windows so [Lorraine Schwartz] put 25 stones at the bottom, so they're all New York City references."
For the theme "In America: An Anthology of Fashion", Sophie, who is expecting baby No. 2 with her husband Joe Jonas, looked stunning in a black semi-sheer maternity dress with long sleeves and eye-catching detailing across the front by Louis Vuitton. She completed her look with a pair of black platform sandals. Joe, in the meantime, wore a long white suit jacket and black pants by the same designer.
Also turning heads at the star-studded event was Gigi Hadid. The supermodel flaunted her fit physique in a red scarlet leather corset and matching skin-tight pants. She added hot red knee-high boots and a bold crimson lip and a stunning jacket.
Hailey Bieber (Hailey Baldwin) walked the red carpet with her jaw-dropping look as well. The wife of Justin Bieber looked angelic in a white silk YSL gown with a halter neckline and high slit. She also wore black tights and dramatic silk and feather jacket to complete her look.
Kendall Jenner, meanwhile, wowed by stepping out in a glamorous black dress. The "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" alum donned a two-piece ensemble featuring a full-bodied skirt with a long train which she paired with a sheer nipple-baring tank top under a fishnet crop top. She even made a bold statement by dyeing her eyebrows platinum blonde.
Aside from Kendall, her older sister Kim Kardashian sported freshly dyed blond hair. The SKIMS founder, who was accompanied by her boyfriend Pete Davidson, wore Marilyn Monroe's dress, which was described as "the world's most expensive dress." She said of her look, "The idea really came to me after the gala in September last year. I thought to myself, what would I have done for the American theme if it had not been the Balenciaga look? What's the most American thing you can think of? And that's Marilyn Monroe."
In the meantime, Kaia Gerber and Austin Butler took the opportunity to make their red carpet debut as a couple. For this year's event, the 20-year-old model dazzled in a lacy metallic gown by Alexander McQueen and jewels by Kwiat. The "Elvis" star, meanwhile, looked dapper in an all-black ensemble by Prada.
