AceShowbiz - Ashley Judd and Wyonna Judd announced that their mother Naomi Judd has passed away. When expressing their heartbreak over the loss, the former "Berlin Station" star and the country singer said their hearts were "shattered" in the wake of their mom's death.
The sisters shared the sad news on Saturday, April 30. "Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness," they began their statement, which was shared on The Judds and Ashley's Instagram accounts.
"We are shattered. We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public," the 54-year-old actress and the 57-year-old musician continued. "We are in unknown territory."
A number of celebrities have since offered their condolences. One in particular was Reese Witherspoon, who commented, "Oh friend. My heart is broken for you & your sister." Lindsey Vonn penned, "So sorry for your loss." Shailene Woodley wrote, "oh mama. my love. sister. i am so sorry. my heart is with you both."
Fellow country stars also paid tribute to the late singer. Carrie Underwood wrote on Twitter, "Country music lost a true legend…sing with the angels, Naomi!!! We're all sending up prayers for the Judd family today…"
"So very sad to hear of #NaomiJudd passing today. I had the great honor of knowing her, and she was no doubt one of the most iconic entertainers ever to make country music," John Rich tweeted. "Thinking of my good friend @Wynonna right now, this is a very tough day for her and the family. #TheJudds."
Naomi died at the age of 76. The singer passed away just weeks after she and her daughter Wynonnna announced their final tour, which was set to kick off on September 3 in Michigan and would concluded in Nashville on October 28.
