Nirvana Songs Get Techno Treatment in Support of LGBTQ Community

Put together by electro collective Techrow, each track in 'Come as You Are: Nirvana Reimagined as House and Techno' will represent one year of tragic former frontman Kurt Cobain's life.

AceShowbiz - Nirvana's songs have been remixed for a new dance album to benefit LGBTQ+ causes. "Come as You Are: Nirvana Reimagined as House & Techno", has been put together by electro collective TECHROW, comprising musicians Jonathan Hay, Cain McKnight and 41X.

The 27 tracks each represent one year of tragic former Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's life. The longtime supporter of the LGBTQ community took his own life in April 1994.

"Come as You Are: Nirvana Reimagined as House & Techno" will feature multiple versions of Nirvana classics, including "Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Come as You Are" and "Something in the Way", which features transgender activist Daniella Carter.

"[Kurt] was a supporter of LGBTQ+ when it wasn't politically correct to be so," Hay tells "He's about love and positivity, which is what house music is all about. So, it just made sense for us."

Speaking about Nirvana's music, Hay points out, "When you dive into it, you can tell the band was so tight. You can feel the core values that he had." He adds, "The more you dig deeper into Nirvana, you see their messages and beliefs and everything else. I think this will be cool to bring people into that awareness. There's more here than people know about."

Proceeds from the upcoming release will be divided between charitable organizations, including GLAAD and MusiCares, whose chiefs work to support marginalized LGBTQ community members.

As for Kurt, ex-drummer Dave Grohl has admitted that the former was never far from his thought. "I think about him all the time," he told PEOPLE. "I just had a dream about him two nights ago. I only knew Kurt for about three and a half years, but in that time we went through multiple lifetimes. Kurt's songs touched the world."
