The actor husband of Rebecca Romijn, who has been a regular guest host on the daytime talk show over the past several months, could become its first permanent male panellist.

AceShowbiz - Actor Jerry O'Connell is reportedly in negotiations to replace Sharon Osbourne as a permanent co-host on U.S. TV show "The Talk".

Sharon departed the daytime program earlier this year (2021) following an on-air bust-up with fellow panellist Sheryl Underwood over comments Piers Morgan had made about the Duchess of Sussex's explosive TV interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Following the drama, "The Talk" was yanked from the air for weeks and when it returned, Sharon was no longer part of the line up.

O'Connell has been a regular guest host on the show over the past several months, and now it appears he may be there to stay.

A source tells TheWrap Jerry is close to completing a deal to join the show, alongside Underwood, Amanda Kloots and Elaine Welteroth. Carrie Ann Inaba has taken a leave of absence from the series.

If the deal works out, he will become the show's first permanent male panellist, ahead of the upcoming 12th season of "The Talk".

In the wake of Sharon's exit from the show following the controversy, her husband Ozzy Osbourne showered her with praises. "She's been through the mill of it. All I can tell you is if my wife was slightly racist I'd tell you... She's possibly the most un-racist person I've ever met," he said in May. "And I'm not just saying that, you know."

"But she's weathered the storm... She's marching on, but it's still an unpleasant issue," the former Black Sabbath rocker went on to say. "It's one of them things once you're accused of it, it's very hard to shake off [sic]."
