AceShowbiz - Scottie Pippen is having a hard time after the passing of his son Antron Jerrod Pippen earlier this year. In a new interview, the 55-year-old former basketball player shared that he still has "up and downs" moments, but he assures people that he's doing "good."
"I'm good. I still have my moments of ups and downs, but I'm good," the retired NBA star told PEOPLE, adding, "I will continue to gain strength because today there is none." Scottie went on to say that "there's never enough time" to truly move on from the loss, though he's determined to heal.
The Chicago Bulls legend shared the heartbreaking news with fans online on Monday, April 19, revealing his firstborn had passed away on Sunday. While he didn't offer up any specific details about Antron's cause of death, he explained he had always "shared a love for basketball" with Antron, whose professional hopes of becoming a sportsman himself were derailed by his health.
"Antron suffered from chronic asthma and if he hadn't had it, I truly believe he would've made it to the NBA," Pippen tweeted of Antron, who played basketball for both South Georgia Technical College and Texas A&M International. "He never let that get him down, though - Antron stayed positive and worked hard, and I am so proud of the man that he became."
"Please keep his mom, Karen, and all of his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. A kind heart and beautiful soul gone way too soon. I love you, son, rest easy until we meet again," so he continued.
In addition to Antron, whom he shares with first wife Karen McCollum, Scottie shares four children with his second ex-wife, Larsa Pippen. He also has two daughters from previous relationships.
