AceShowbiz - The 2021 BET Awards celebrated black excellence on Sunday, June 27 as it took place at Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. Hosted by Taraji P. Henson, the award-giving show presented honors to big names in entertainment and sports industry.

Among the winners that night was H.E.R., who was named as the best female R&B / pop artist. She edged out fellow nominees including Beyonce Knowles, Jazmine Sullivan, Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker and SZA. Jazmine, meanwhile, snagged the award for Album of the Year, thanks to her album "Heaux Tales".

Also winning a big prize that night was Megan Thee Stallion. The Hot Girl Summer was honored with the Best Female Hip Hop Artist accolade at the event. Megan also nabbed a trophy for video of the year for her collaborative track "WAP" with Cardi B.

As for Best Male Hip Hop Artist, the award went to Lil Baby. Giveon took home Best New Artist award with Silk Sonic winning Best Group category.

In the movie department, Andra Day won Best Actress trophy over Angela Bassett, Issa Rae, Jurnee Smollett, Viola Davis and Zendaya Coleman. Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka, who made headlines earlier this year for withdrawing from French Open due to mental health issues, was presented with Sportswoman of the Year award. Lebron James took home the Sportsman of the year award.
