The 'Telepatia' hitmaker breaks record with her sultry track about long-distanced relationships as she becomes the first female soloist in nine years to land a single atop Billboard Hot Latin Songs.

AceShowbiz - Kali Uchis really put her name on the map. A song about long-distance relationships, her new single "Telepatia" created a huge buzz on the wildly popular TikTok and subsequently sent the Colombian-American singer/songwriter to the top spot on Billboard chart.

The single climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, marking Kali's first chart topper on the list and making her the first female soloist without an accompanied act to land atop the chart since Mexican singer Paulina Rubio did so with "Me Gustas Tanto" in 2012.

The sultry song, which sees Kali switch between Spanish and English, also peaked at the summit on Latin Streaming Songs as it raked in millions of streams on numerous top music platforms. It additionally entered Top 20 on the Mediabase pop radio airplay chart.

As the song soared high, it pushed the album "Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios)", where the single resides, to break into Billboard Hot 200. Kali's sophomore set after 2018's "Isolation", "Sin Miedo" even topped the Apple Music Latin chart with over 60 million streams.

Despite the huge success, "Sin Miedo" almost didn't happen. Kali had to fight for the album as she told Billboard, "A lot of people didn't want me to make this album or tried to make me feel it wasn't a real contribution to my discography, all because it was in Spanish."

But she refused to bend to pressure as she explained in a separate chat with W Magazine, "I'm becoming older, I want to be focused on the bigger picture of my career. I am going to continue to follow my intuition and remember where I started and be rooted in that."

"I never wanted a soaring rise to fame. I want a silent ascent to iconic. When I look at the bigger picture, I believe the trajectory of my artistry is representative of how versatile I am as an artist. What feels most authentic to me is going between languages and being able to push between genres because that's actually where I come from."

"This album was about being able to showcase my versatility and pay homage by honoring all of the different genres that were part of my Latin American heritage and identity."
