AceShowbiz - Madison Beer is refuting accusations she used her participation in Black Lives Matter protests as a photo opportunity.
The pop star has been called out for allegedly using "performative activism" after a video began circulating online that shows her posing in front of a photographer atop a car during a Black Lives Matter protest in Los Angeles.
One Instagram commenter noted, "of course madison beer had to use this opportunity for a photo op lmaooo (laugh my a** off) this is what we call performative activism (sic)."
The 21-year-old has been regularly taking to social media to document her participation in the protests, which began sweeping the nation following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed African-American man killed at the hands of Minneapolis, Minnesota police officers on 25 May.
"I have been protesting for days. this is not and never was a photo op it is me standing with a movement and getting out there to spread a message I believe in. that is all," Beer responded.
The star has a massive presence on social media, boasting over 10 million followers on the social media platform TikTok and over 1.8 million subscribers to her YouTube channel.
