The decision arrives after Brandi was heavily criticized for being racist in a newly-resurfaced 2019 video, in which the Bravo personality is seen impersonating an Asian woman.

AceShowbiz - "The Real Housewives of Dallas" star Brandi Redmond is taking time off to "reflect." The TV star announced on Friday, January 10 that she decided to check herself into a wellness center after landing in hot water following a racially insensitive video.

In a statement to PEOPLE, her rep stated that the 41-year-old TV star was taking "reflect and better herself." The statement continued, "She will be back with us next week. We support her on this journey of healing and ask that you join us in that."

The decision arrives after Brandi was heavily criticized for being racist in a newly-resurfaced 2019 video. In the clip, Brandi could be seen impersonating an Asian woman, saying, "Everybody ask me what Asian I am because my eyes, they squinty." Her daughters, 10-year-old Brooklyn and 7-year-old Brinkley, meanwhile, posed and giggled behind her.

It didn't take long before the video earned her criticism with some people calling her "racist" and "unaware." Brandi responded to the backlash in a now-deleted tweet, "It's a good impersonation if I do say so myself and there was no harm done," adding that she would "do it again."

Brandi appeared to realize how hurtful the video was and issued a public apology on her Twitter account. "A video resurfaced of me from three years ago which at the time I had posted and quickly deleted and then immediately apologized for my insensitivity," Brandi wrote on January 4. "I would like to once again sincerely apologize for my offensive actions."

Despite the criticism, some people jumped into Brandi's defense and among them is "RHOD" co-star Stephanie Hollman. During her appearance on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen", she said of her castmate, "She made a horrible mistake. She apologized then, she apologized again. She's learning, she's growing. I think it was just some really poor judgment and a horrible decision. I've been on the phone with her a lot and she's struggling with the shame of doing that. She realizes it's not okay."
