AceShowbiz - Broadway star Ann Crumb has lost her battle with ovarian cancer.

The actress, who had been battling the disease for almost five years, passed away at her parents' home in Pennsylvania on Thursday, October 31, aged 69.

Born in Charleston, West Virginia, to Pulitzer Prize-winning classical composer George Crumb and violinist Elizabeth Crumb, Ann rose to fame through her work on the stage, making her Broadway debut in the original production of "Les Miserables" in 1987.

She would go on to score roles in shows like "Chess" and "Anna Karenina", for which she earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical, but she will perhaps be best remembered for her performance in Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Aspects of Love", in which she portrayed lead character Rose Vibert in both the West End and Broadway runs in 1989 and 1990, respectively.

Her casting made her the first American actress to originate a starring role in one of the legendary composer's productions.

Ann also featured in a number of TV shows, including crime drama "Law & Order", and soap operas "As the World Turns" and "Another World".

Away from the spotlight, the actress was dedicated to animal rescue and adoption. Her loved ones are now planning to launch the Ann Crumb Foundation for Animals in her memory.
