While many actors have distanced themselves from the filmmaker, the 'Black Widow' star says she believes Allen, who directed her in 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona', and would love to work with him again.

AceShowbiz - Scarlett Johansson has drawn the ire of many people after sharing her thoughts on the controversy regarding filmmaker Woody Allen. The actress, who worked with the director on "Match Point" (2005), "Scoop"(2006) and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona"(2008), defends Allen amid sexual abuse allegations by his and Mia Farrow's adopted daughter Dylan Farrow.
"How do I feel about Woody Allen?" the "Avengers: Endgame" star reiterated the question when asked by The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. "I love Woody," she then answered. "I believe him, and I would work with him anytime."
She added, "I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he's very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him."
Johansson's statement has since stirred backlash from people on social media. Human Rights Campaign communications writer Charlotte Clymer slammed the actress as writing, "At this point, I think the only identity Scarlett Johansson hasn't tried to culturally appropriate is a person with integrity." Clymer was referring to Johansson's controversial roles such as in "Ghost in the Shell" (2017).
"Pod Save America" co-host Jon Lovett wrote, "What a judge of character Scarlett Johansson must believe herself to be, so capable of knowing when she is being deceived or not. It’s the kind of arrogance you have to really hone over many years. What child molesters did she find less convincing in her interrogations?"
He then listed some incriminating facts about Allen, "Babysitter reports finding Allen with his head in Dylan's lap, pediatrician calls police after Dylan describes separate assault, Allen was in therapy for his contact with Dylan, judge denying Allen custody of Dylan."
Michael Cuby, Them editor at large, added, "Scarlett Johansson vehemently defending Woody Allen, further solidifying herself as one of the worst people working in Hollywood. You really hate to see it."
A Twitter user reacted to Johansson's statement, "Another reason why we need to dump #ScarlettJohansson." Another expressed her/his feelings simply with "How disappointing, #ScarlettJohansson."
Someone else blasted the "Jojo Rabbit" star, "Clearly she's already 'campaigning' by pledging loyalty to a known hollywood pedo. Next she'll be saying Roman Polanski is an inspiration & Harvey Weinstein is just misunderstood. Hollywood is dead."
Johansson has not responded to the backlash.
