While Mr. Wednesday is giving Shadow Moon 'a big role' for the impending battle against the New Gods, the deities are also preparing their own strategy.

AceShowbiz - "American Gods" returns for season 2 along with a war. Starz has unearthed a new trailer for the sophomore season of the series based on the work of acclaimed author Neil Gaiman. Coming this March, the new season will seemingly feature the war between Old Gods and the New.

The 1-minute-and-49-second footage opens with Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) saying how American people gradually abadon the "Old, forgotten Gods." He goes on saying in voiceover, "Now there are new Gods growing in America. And they want to destroy us. War is coming, Shadow [Ricky Whittle]," before revealing that he has a big role to him.

The next scene shows Mr. Wednesday preparing his protege for the battle against the new Gods. But at the same time, those deities are also preparing their own strategy for the impending war. At the end of the trailer, Shadow asks Mr. Wednesday if they are ready, to which the latter responds, "I am."

Season 2 will pick up where season 1 left off in which Shadow got involved in Mr. Wednesday's brewing conflict between the gods of the olden days and the new, tech-centered gods we worship with our screens and credit cards. Returning for the sophomore season is Crispin Glover who will reprise his role as Mr. World. Meanwhile, Sakina Jaffrey ("House of Cards") and Dean Winters ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine") join the new season as Hindu-goddess-turned-waitress Mama-ji and Mr. Town respectively.

The series will offer something more intense in the sophomore season. "A council at the House on the Rock explodes into chaos," Starz previously teased. It is "sending deities both Old and New on quests across America that will converge on Cairo, Illinois: forcing Shadow to carve out a place as a believer in this strange new world of living gods -- a dark world where change demands commitment, and faith requires terrible sacrifice."

The new season will also feature Mr. World plotting "revenge for the attack against him" with Shadow throwing "in his lot with Wednesday’s attempt to convince the Old Gods of the case for full-out war, with Laura and Mad Sweeney in tow."

Season 2 of "American Gods" will arrive on March 10 at 8 P.M. on Starz.
