The announcement arrives after several production turbulences including departures of Bryan Fullers and Michael Green as well as Gillian Anderson's exit.

AceShowbiz - Mark you calendar! Starz has finally announced the premire date of the long-awaited season 2 of its fantasy series "American Gods". It's been revealed that the series is slated to return for a sophomore season on March 10, 2019.

"American Gods Season 2 is coming March 10 2019," actor Mousa Kraish wrote on Twitter alongside a new poster of the show. "Which is crazy cause I was planning to be home and binge watch a show. So perfect timing. Who wants to come over?!?"

The official Twitter account of the series then quoted the tweet, writing, "Let's do this. We're binging #AmericanGods Season 1 December 29 on @STARZ and at @MousaKraish's place if you happen to be in the neighborhood."

Fellow star Bruce Langley also shared his excitement for the new season. "Well ladies and gent, it's official! #Americangods #season2 will be coming your way 10th of March 2019! Details? Oh alright then.. Thrilled to be back @AmericanGodsSTZ @GodsOnAmazon @STARZ @FremantleUS," he said.

Season 2 of "American Gods" will see Ricky Whittle reprising his role as Shadow Moon. Also returning is Ian McShane's Norse god character Mr. Wednesday. The two will continue their journey on war between the old gods and the new.

Based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name, the series will offer something more intense in the sophomore season. "A council at the House on the Rock explodes into chaos," Starz teases in a release. It is "sending deities both Old and New on quests across America that will converge on Cairo, Illinois: forcing Shadow to carve out a place as a believer in this strange new world of living gods -- a dark world where change demands commitment, and faith requires terrible sacrifice."

The new season will also feature Mr. World (Crispin Glover) plotting "revenge for the attack against him" with Shadow throwing "in his lot with Wednesday’s attempt to convince the Old Gods of the case for full-out war, with Laura and Mad Sweeney in tow."

Prior to this, "American Gods" faced several production turbulences including departures of Bryan Fullers and Michael Green as well as Gillian Anderson's exit. It was said that Fuller and Green parted ways with the Starz drama after clashing with producer FremantleMedia over budget and creative direction for the second season of the series.

The two reportedly were pushing for an increase to the series' budget for the upcoming season. Sources close to the production said the budget for the fantasy series was already nearly $10 million per episode.

Season 2 of "American Gods" will arrive on March 10, 2019 at 8 P.M. on Starz.
