'They start shooting in the spring. It's not going to air in 2018,' HBO programming president Casey Bloys reveals in a new interview.

AceShowbiz - This may be bad news for those who enjoy HBO's smash hit "Big Little Lies". HBO programming president Casey Bloys revealed in a new interview that the Emmy and Golden Globes-winning series wouldn't return until 2019.

When asked if the sophomore season of the hit series starring Nicole Kidman would be airing in 2018, Bloys replied with a firm "No!" Bloys added, "They start shooting in the spring. It's not going to air in 2018."

"Big Little Lies" was a huge success at the 2018 Golden Globes, bagging four awards out of its six nominations including Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. The series was also the big winner at the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards.

Given the success, it's understandable that people are wondering whether there will be a third season. However, Bloys shared that season 3 and beyond were seemingly out of the realm of possibility due to the stars' busy schedules. "Everybody involved is so busy that it's hard to imagine aligning everybody's schedule again. The fact that we were able to get season two together is a small miracle," he said.

But Bloys wanted to stay positive as he added, "Could we do it again? Who knows?! It's a great group. They love working together and they're really fun to work with. But everybody is really busy. So let's see."

The HBO boss also addressed the report of bringing new faces in the upcoming season 2. "In general, I don't think anybody involved is thinking we're going to do the same thing. In any second season of a show, people want to see growth in the characters and storylines. I don't think anyone involved is trying to do the same thing. We're trying to progress everybody's lives in the storytelling," he explained.

When asked about the series casting actresses to portray the mother to Alexander Skarsgard and Zoe Kravitz's characters, Bloys gave a rather vague answer. "Maybe!" he said.

Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern are among the returning actors for the second season. Debuting on April 2, 2017, "Big Little Lies" follows the tale of murder and mischief in the tranquil beachfront town of Monterey, California, which was told through the eyes of three doting moms--Madeline, Celeste and Jane.
