'Hellboy' Gets Early 2019 Release Date, James Franco's Crime Thriller 'Kin' Arrives Next Summer

Lionsgate has announced that the upcoming 'Helboy' remake will be released in January 2019, while the crime thriller, starring Franco as a vengeful criminal, targets the end of next summer.

AceShowbiz - Mark your calendar! Lionsgate has announced the release date of its upcoming "Hellboy" remake. The reboot of the 2004 sci-fi flick which is called "Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen" is set to hit theaters across the nation on January 11, 2019. This puts the movie opposite Taraji P. Henson's "What Men Want" and Brad Pitt's "Ad Astra" so far.

David Harbour of "Stranger Things" slips into the devil's suit in the upcoming supernatural superhero film. Milla Jovovich, best known for playing Alice in "Resident Evil" film series, has been cast to play the titular, villainous Blood Queen, while "American Gods" actor Ian McShane will take on the role of Hellboy's adoptive father, Professor Trevor Bruttenholm.

Other cast members of the "Hellboy" remake include "American Honey" breakout star Sasha Lane as Alice Monaghan, "Hemlock Grove" actress Penelope Mitchell as the elder witch Ganeida, "Hawaii Five-0" alum Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimino, and many more.

The film will follow Hellboy as he is caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human and battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge. It is directed by Neil Marshall, best known for directing two prominent episodes of HBO's "Game of Thrones" which were "Blackwater" and "The Watchers on the Wall". The script was co-written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Aron Coleite.

Besides the "Hellboy" remake release date, Lionsgate has announced that its James Franco-starring crime thriller "Kin" will arrive at the end of next summer, on August 31, 2018 to be exact. On that date, the film will be up against "The Little Stranger" at the box office.

Directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker, "Kin" follows an ex-convict and his brother who are forced to go on the run by a vengeful criminal. Franco stars as the criminal, while the brothers are portrayed by Jack Reynor and Myles Truitt. The cast also includes Zoe Kravitz, Dennis Quaid and Mark O'Brien among others.
