'Party of Five' Gets Remake With a Twist

Instead of following an American family like the original one, the reboot will focus on a first-generation Latino family who immigrated to the U.S.

The classic teen family drama series "Party of Five" is getting a reboot, The Hollywood Reporter learns. The remake is reportedly developed by the original series creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman for Sony Pictures Television Studios.

While the original series revolved around a U.S. family after their parents were killed in a car crash, the revamped version will focus on a first-generation Latino family who moved to the states and are now living through the highs and lows as they learn to make it in a new country. What happens to the family's parents is still kept under wraps.

The original "Party of Five" first aired on FOX in 1994. Dealing with the loss of parents, substance abuse, domestic violence and cancer, it lasted for six seasons and ended its run in 2000. The siblings were played by Scott Wolf, Matthew Fox, Neve Campbell and Lacey Chabert. Notable co-stars included Scott Grimes, Paula Devicq, Michael Goorjian, Jeremy London and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

The show had low ratings during the first and second seasons, but its popularity grew after it won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama in 1996. It spawned a spin-off called "Time of Your Life" that followed Hewitt's character as she moved to New York City. It was also supported by Jennifer Garner. It was, unfortunately, not as popular as its parent show and got canceled after one season.

The "Party of Five" revival is still in early stages and no network is attached to it. It's unclear if any of the original stars will return for the remake. Campbell told Andy Cohen earlier this year when asked about a possible reboot, "It wouldn't make any sense whatsoever. If we haven't over the death of our parents 20 years later we have a serious problem."
