EP Greg Berlanti teases that the upcoming season features 'an incredible new mystery and a new hook,' as well as gets 'more of everything that people love about the show.'

A new promo of season 2 of "Riverdale" has been released by The CW. The 40-second intriguing video teases that Archie and friends will embark on a darker, yet somehow sexier, journey in the upcoming sophomore season.

The new promo shows the aftermath of the season 1 finale, in which Fred Andrews (Luke Perry) was shot in front of his son Archie (KJ Apa) in Pop Tate's diner. The new video sees that Fred is in the hospital, hooked to a respirator.

The trailer invites fans to unfold the mystery of who and why the man shot Fred. "If robbery wasn't the motive, people hold grudges," says Jughead (Cole Sprouse) in voiceover. Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) is seen at the hospital, sitting on a chair beside Fred's bed.

Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) is also briefly glimpsed in the new trailer. Hiram, Veronica Lodge's (Camila Mendes) father, has been the most-assumed suspect of the shooting due to the affair between Fred and Hiram's wife Hermione.

But season 2 is not all about sinister. It seems like all the bloody events which happen in Riverdale will deepen the bond between the show's couples, including Archie and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes), and Jughead and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart). In addition to a steamy shower scene, Veronica is seen donning a white dress in what appears to be a wedding ceremony. However, it seems like it's just an Archie dream sequence of sorts.

The cast of The CW's modern reboot of the Archie comics is featured in Entertainment Weekly's Fall TV Preview. In the interview, EP Greg Berlanti shares, "The first three episodes of this [new season] are the strongest of a second season I've been a part of." The veteran producer goes on teasing, "It's got an incredible new mystery and a new hook, and I think it's got more of everything that people love about the show."
