Tom Hardy Is Reportedly in Talks to Play Jafar in 'Aladdin'
Movie

'The Revenant' actor is reportedly approached by director Guy Ritchie to play the villain in the upcoming Disney movie.

AceShowbiz -

Tom Hardy may play villain in the upcoming "Aladdin" remake. The Sun reports that director Guy Ritchie is currently approaching the British actor to play villainous Jafar in the movie.

"Guy is a huge fan of Tom's work and securing him would be a major coup," a source says to the site. "There have been conversations and, although nothing is set in stone and things are subject to change, he's certainly one of Guy's favoured choices. It just depends on schedules whether he'll be able to sign up," the source adds.

Should Hardy star in "Aladdin", it will be the second collaboration he has with Ritchie. Back in 2008, Ritchie cast Hardy to play a character called Handsome Bob in crime comedy "RocknRolla", in which Hardy starred opposite Gerard Butler and Idris Elba.

Hardy was last seen in "The Revenant", portraying Leonardo DiCaprio's on-screen nemesis. Hardy will next be seen in Christopher Nolan's WWII epic movie "Dunkirk" and is on board to star in "Venom (2018)" as the titular antihero.

Last month, rumor surfaced that Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall was in talks to play Princess Jasmine in "Aladdin". However, there hasn't been any official announcement from Disney regarding the matter.

"Aladdin" is one of many projects which Disney is currently working on, besides "Dumbo", "The Lion King (2019), "Peter Pan", "Maleficent 2", "The Little Mermaid (2019)", "Mulan", "Snow White" and "Cruella", a pic centering on Cruella de Vil from "101 Dalmatians". The original version of "Aladdin" became blockbuster back in 1992, earning $504.1 million worldwide against $28 million budget.
