The Pearson family is back in the first emotional featurette for the second season of "This Is Us". Mandy Moore and fellow cast members Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown and Chrissy Metz have prepared a little surprise for fans in the newly-released featurette.
" 'This Is Us' quickly became the Fall's No. 1 new show. Inspired by the overwhelming response, we invited some of our fans to share their stories and to give them a little surprise," Sterling narrates the featurette, which was released at NBC's upfront presentation on Monday, May 15. Several fans share their personal stories about connecting to the shows' characters as their favorite stars from the series secretly listen in.
A fan, who comes with his family, shares his story about how he relates to Randall's (Sterling) story in a personal level. "I come from a family of five, [and I have] a single mother, and never knew who my dad was. But, recently I took a DNA test and found out the name of my biological father," the fan shares. The emotional scene in which Randall visited his biological father, William (Ron Cephas Jones), is later glimpsed.
Another fan draws a comparison between Mandy's character, Rebecca, to his own mother. "My mom was going through so much [of] what Rebecca was going through: identity crisis, hurt, the father figure not being there," he says. Mandy, who listens at the back, later quietly walks on set and gives him a heartwarming hug to the fan. "What an incredibly inspiring man you are," the 33-year-old actress says to him.
Milo and Chrissy also successfully surprise other fans, one of which names her baby after Chrissy's character Kate. The emotional featurette features happy and shocked faces of the fans as the cast members shock them mid-testimonial.
Also on Monday, "This Is Us" cast reunited at the NBC's upfront presentation. "Back at it with the fam. #thisisus #nbcupfronts," Mandy captioned a photo of her on-screen family looking all happy at the occasion. Susan Kelechi Watson also took to Instagram to share a photo of them and wrote in the caption, "We're coming baaaack...#nbcupfronts #accesshollywoodlive #thisisus."
Moving from Tuesday to Thursday at 9 P.M. slot as one of NBC's Must-See TV lineup, "This Is Us" is set to return for season 2 this fall.
