The actress, who is best known for her role as Rory on 'Gilmore Girls', will star on Hulu's adaptation of Margaret Atwood's best-selling dystopian novel.

AceShowbiz - After recently starring on "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life", Alexis Bledel now joins Hulu's upcoming series called "The Handmaid's Tale". The dystopian series is based on Margaret Atwood's best-selling novel of the same name.

Alexis will recur as a lesbian character named Ofglen. She is Offred's (Elisabeth Moss) companion and fellow handmaid. Ofglen seems loyal to the oppressive system of Gilead Republic at first, but later she turns out to be subversive and fearless.

A first look at Alexis as Ofglen has also been released by the network. As seen in the picture above, the actress is sporting a maroon tunic and white bonnet. She's also seen holding her right hand over her chest and showing an anxious face.

"The Handmaid's Tale" chronicles the story of a handmaid named Offred who's battling to survive in a male-dominated totalitarian society where women are forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world.

The 10-episode series also stars Samira Wiley as Moira, Joseph Fiennes as Commander Fred Waterford, Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy Waterford, Max Minghella as Nick, Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia, Madeline Brewer as Janine and O.T. Fagbenle as Luke, Offred's husband.

"The Handmaid's Tale" will premiere on April 26 on Hulu.
