'Han Solo' Movie Eyes Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz and Naomi Scott as Female Lead

The three actresses are the frontrunners to star in the upcoming 'Star Wars' spin-off alongside Alden Ehrenreich, who is already tapped to play young Han Solo.

AceShowbiz - As the production is expected to kick off next year in January, "Han Solo" movie is moving forward by looking for another lead. Lucasfilm as well as directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are currently eying Tessa Thompson, Zoe Kravitz and Naomi Scott to star alongside Alden Ehrenreich in the untitled stand-alone Star Wars film II.

According to Variety, the three actresses, who star in "Creed", in the "Divergent" film series and in the upcoming "Power Rangers" respectively, are the frontrunners to star in the upcoming spin-off. Sources say that the trio tested in London this week for the role which details remain secret.

Ehrenreich is attached to play young Han Solo. Donald Glover was said to be the top choice to star as young smuggler Lando Calrissian, Han Solo's friend who was portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy. However, the "Community" alum has yet to confirm whether or not he had casting talks with Lucasfilm.

The upcoming "Han Solo" movie is described as an origin story about Han Solo and his best buddy Chewbacca. Lord and Miller will direct the movie from a screenplay written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon. It is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018. Meanwhile, another "Star Wars" spin-off starring Felicity Jones, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", opens this year on December 17.
