Nominees for the upcoming CMT Music Awards were revealed in May, but candidates for the most coveted Artist of the Year title were left out. Now CMT reveals who will be vying for the prestigious trophy at the annual country music event.
Chris Stapleton and Carrie Underwood are among the Artist of the Year nominees, adding their nods to a total of four each. Joining the stiff competition in the category are Florida Georgia Line, Luke Bryan and Thomas Rhett.
Winners will be feted at a gala which broadcasts live from Nashville's Schermerhorn Symphony Center on October 20. Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, Keith Urban, Kacey Musgraves, Zac Brown Band score nominations as well. Non-country music stars like Adam Lambert ("American Idol" alum) and Leona Lewis ("The X Factor" graduate) are up for CMT Performance of the Year, thanks to their duet "Girl Crush".
