The 60-year-old 'Hacksaw Ridge' filmmaker has some harsh words for Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Juctice', saying that 'it's a piece of s**t' and 'real superheroes didn't wear spandex.'

AceShowbiz - Mel Gibson slams Warner Bros.' critically panned blockbuster "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". During an interview with Deadline, the filmmaker talks about his latest film "Hacksaw Ridge", which received standing ovations when it was screened at Venice Film Festival last week, and has some harsh words for superhero films in general before calling the Zack Snyder-directed film "a piece of s**t."

Talking about big summer movies that cost more than $200 million, he says, "I don't believe so. I look at them and scratch my head. I'm really baffled by it. I think there's a lot of waste, but maybe if I did one of those things with the green screens I'd find out different. I don't know. Maybe they do cost that much. I don't know. It seems to me that you could do it for less."

The 60-year-old filmmaker continues, "Wow, I mean if you're spending outrageous amounts of money, $180 million or more, I don't know how you make it back after the tax man gets you, and after you give half to the exhibitors. What did they spend on 'Batman v Superman' that they're admitting to?"

After he is informed that the budget of the Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill-starring flick was around $250 million, he responds, "And it's a piece of s**t." He adds, "I'm not interested in the stuff. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic book superheroes is? Real superheroes didn't wear spandex. So I don't know. Spandex must cost a lot."

Meanwhile, Gibson's forthcoming "Hacksaw Ridge" is coming to U.S theaters on November 4. The World War II drama stars Andrew Garfield, Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn, Sam Worthington, Hugo Weaving, Luke Bracey and Rachel Griffiths.
